DOUG'S BOOKS NEWSLETTER&NEW BOOKS APRIL 2018

Photo of Doug Nicholson Dear Booklovers Everywhere,
In my humble opinion, after a lifetime as an avid reader, and for the last 15 years as a bookseller, the printed book as we know it, is one of the greatest gifts known to man. As a means of communication it was established before radio, television, movies, newspapers and now what is commonly described as 'social media'.
Sadly now the second-hand bookshop is dying a slow death. Beset by modern shopping centers, large and small, these shops, which for many years were to be found, wherever one shopped, have all but disappeared, killed by ever increasing rents.
However we still have the odd charity shop and now book businesses such as my own which are able to bring books to you via the Internet. There are an increasing number, some of which build in their own auction site. Shop around, all is not lost !

As always I am able to add some books to my internet web site, some new and other old favourites. Look out for the ever increasing ranges of fiction, currently Lee Child rules the roost despite allowing Hollywood to depict his hero, Jack Reacher, a 2 meter, 110kg tough guy to be played in a movie by Tom Cruise !!!!! Sorry my pet hate !

Afikaaner still rules the roost on my web site but as books of this nature are getting harder to find, younger people are turning to more readily available fiction.
The recent movie "The Darkest Hour" has reminded us all how powerful and determined a character Winston Churchill was, the "Man of the 20th Century',and he has not been forgotten, despite the passage of time. Many younger people who have had little knowledge of that era could do well to read some of the many books on the subject. My forthcoming blog feature will shortly be featuring the Churchill era.Watch that space !
